Representing the unique public safety mission of one of Alaska's remote island communities, this challenge coin honors the professionals who serve the City of Saint Paul on St. Paul Island, Alaska. The double-sided design brings together the island's public safety services, distinctive landscape, wildlife and cultural heritage.

The Design

The St. Paul Island side showcases the history and character of the island, featuring its Russian Orthodox heritage, dramatic Bering Sea coastline, northern fur seals and a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter. The border pairs “St. Paul Island, Alaska” with its Russian-language counterpart, reflecting the island's historic ties to Russia and its modern American identity.

The Public Safety side features a five-point star centered around the State of Alaska seal, with individual sections representing law enforcement, fire service, emergency medical services, maritime response and other public safety disciplines. “Public Safety — City of Saint Paul, Alaska” surrounds the design.

Created for public safety professionals, first responders, Alaskans and challenge coin collectors, this coin recognizes the people who serve a community unlike anywhere else in the country.
