NPS DRE Challenge Coin
Recognizing the specialized knowledge and training required to identify drug impairment, this challenge coin honors National Park Service law enforcement officers serving as Drug Recognition Experts (DREs). The double-sided design brings together the National Park Service law enforcement tradition with the disciplines and drug categories central to drug recognition and evaluation.
The Design
The Drug Recognition Expert side features the Drug Recognition Expert eagle emblem at its center, surrounded by imagery representing the seven drug categories evaluated by DREs: CNS depressants, CNS stimulants, hallucinogens, dissociative anesthetics, narcotic analgesics, inhalants and cannabis. Detailed imagery representing each category surrounds the central emblem against the signature NPS green background.
The National Park Service Law Enforcement side features the NPS arrowhead and Park Ranger badge set against a detailed mountain landscape. A winding roadway and law enforcement vehicles highlight the roadside and investigative work performed by NPS law enforcement officers. “National Park Service Law Enforcement” and “Drug Recognition Expert” frame the design.
Created for NPS law enforcement officers, Drug Recognition Experts and challenge coin collectors, this coin recognizes the specialized expertise required to protect the public through impaired-driving enforcement and drug recognition.
