Hoonah Alaska Public Safety — Challenge Coin
Built around public safety in one of Alaska’s remote coastal communities, this challenge coin represents the Hoonah Department of Public Safety and the agencies and personnel who work together to protect Hoonah and the surrounding region.
The Design
The Hoonah Alaska Public Safety side centers on the department’s badge, set against the imposing figure of an Alaskan brown bear. Deep blue-and-gold detailing frames the design, with “Protecting America’s Last Frontier” recognizing the unique environment and responsibilities of public safety professionals serving Southeast Alaska.
The reverse highlights Hoonah’s connection to both the land and the sea. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter flies above a cruise ship approaching the community, surrounded by the mountains, forests and coastal waters characteristic of Southeast Alaska. The inscription “In Partnership with the US Coast Guard” recognizes the cooperation between local public safety personnel and the Coast Guard in a region where waterways, remote terrain and limited road access make interagency response especially important.
Created for Hoonah public safety personnel, Coast Guard members, Alaska law enforcement supporters and challenge coin collectors, this coin recognizes the people who serve and protect one of America’s most distinctive and remote communities.
